C6 – 60 tonne Slewing Crane Course Outline

Aims and outcomes 

This course aims to ensure successful candidates can safely and competently operate a slewing crane up to 60t capacity on site. On completion of the course participants will be able to perform pre-operational checks; set-up and operate the crane competently; shut down and dismantle and perform various operations competently. 


Pre-Requisite 

It is desirable that participants hold a Dogging High Risk Licence. Licence applicants must be 18 years ofage and be physically capable of performing the tasks of a slewing crane operator. A basic level of English and a moderate understanding of mathematics will also be required. 


Course Content 

The slewing crane up to 60t operator course is mapped to the Nationally Recognised unit of competency: 

TLILIC0023 Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane up to 60t.

  • Legislation, Australian Standards, National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work, codes of practice and company lifting procedures.
  • Company risk management procedures and crane risk control
  • Emergency response procedures incl. Case Studies, alarms, limits
  • Crane type and its capacity
  • Inspection of lifting gear
  • Safe use of all lifting gear - correct reeving, angle factors, determine correct capacity of lifting gear
  • Calculate area; calculate volume; use other means of establishing load mass
  • Crane set up requirements, ground bearing capacities, outrigger pad calculations
  • Pre-operational checks, log book, load chart and its use; areas of operation as per load chart; structural and stability areas; Australian Standards 2550 & 1418; signals as per Australian Standards
  • Operate crane to manufacturers requirements; lift and move loads as directed by dogman/rigger/banksman, follow signals given by dogman/rigger/banksman, shut down and make crane safe.
  • Shut Down and secure site, all lifting gear to be inspected; crane to be inspected and any problems entered into Log Book.

Certification 

Successful candidates will be awarded the Nationally Recognised unit of competency, TLILIC0023 Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane up to 60t recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). A Licence to Perform High Risk Work, class C6 will also be issued upon application to Worksafe Tasmania

32 hours conducted over 4 days.
