Dogging Training Course

Aims and outcomes

This course aims to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to plan, prepare and complete Dogging work safely and efficiently. Dogging work, as prescribed by the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work requires a person to be able to determine the SWL/WLL of lifting equipment including reeve and angle factors; calculation of load weights and determine centre of gravity; select, maintain and inspect fibre ropes, chains, steel and wire ropes; tie bends and hitches; sling, move and place loads; directing cranes.


Pre requisite

Licence applicants must be 18 years of age and be physically capable of performing dogging activities. A basic level of English and a moderate understanding of mathematics will also be required.

Course Content

The Dogging course is mapped to the Nationally Recognised unit of competency:

CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging, including:

  • Legislation, Australian Standards, National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Workcodes of practice and company lifting procedures.
  • Company risk management procedures and lifting risk control
  • Crane type and capacity requirements
  • Fibre Rope - Tag lines; Bends & Hitches
  • Slings, construction, inspection - care/maintenance; discard factors in accordance with AustralianStandards; W.L.L. - breaking strain; safety factor; crane FSWR.
  • Safe use procedure for all sling types; reeving factors; angle factors; determine capacity required; singleand double wrap.
  • Mass and centre of gravity determination.
  • Lifting appliances including chain block; concrete kibble; plate clamp; shackles; spreader/lifting beam.
  • Crane set up including ground bearing pressure, outrigger/stabilizers; load chart interpretation; definedareas of operation; tipping/structural areas.
  • Practical Training - Using a crane with crane operator; sling various loads using different slings andcomponents; use tag lines; use appropriate crane signals in accordance with Australian Standards; shutdown; secure area.

Certification

Successful candidates will be awarded the Nationally Recognised unit of competency, CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform dogging basic level recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). A Licence to Perform High Risk Work, class DG will also be issued upon application to Workplace Standards Tasmania


Duration: 32 hours conducted over 4 days.


Maximum Participants: 8 persons


Cost: $1400 per person. GST Exempt

Reassessment

Students who do not successfully complete the course assessment or who are deemed not ready for assessment during the regular course time frame will require an additional assessment. Additional costs will apply to any additional assessments.

Cancellations

A cancellation fee will not be charged for courses cancelled or rescheduled no less than 5 working days prior to the course start date. For courses cancelled less than 5 days prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 50% of the course cost will be charged. For courses cancelled less than 2 days prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 100% of the course cost will be charged. Full course fees will be charged for "no shows” and participants who start a course but do not complete it.
