Hoists Training Courses 

Aims and outcomes 

This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills to operate a builder's hoist in which personnel, goods and/or materials may be hoisted as prescribed by the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work. On completion of this course, participants will be able to carry out the inspection, operation and shutdown of a personnel and Materials Hoist. 


Pre-Requisite 

Licence applicants must be 18 years of age and be physically capable of performing hoist operator activities. A basic level of English and of mathematics will also be required. 


Course Content 

The Personnel and Materials Hoist operator course is mapped the Nationally Recognised unit of competency: 

CPCCLHS3001 Licence to operate a personnel and materials hoist includes: 

  • Legislation, Australian Standards, National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work,codes of practice and company rigging procedures.
  • Company risk management procedures and rigging risk control
  • Communication techniques in the workplace including bells, lights, intercom and use of two-way radios
  • Conduct personnel and materials hoist operations
  • Operate emergency brake and decent system
  • Inspect personnel and materials hoist equipment, safety equipment and installation for safe operationincluding general maintenance
  • Identify problems and equipment faults and demonstrate appropriate response.
  • Weight of the load is determined from labels, markings or load paperwork
  • Interpretation of manufacturer's instructions, procedures, and safety signs
  • Hoist operations and operating techniques
  • Procedures for the recording, reporting and maintenance of workplace records and information
  • Rated capacity and working load limits

Certification 

Successful candidates will be awarded the Nationally Recognised unit of competency, CPCCLHS3001 Licence to operate a personnel and materials hoist recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). 24 hours conducted over 3 days.

Cost 


Reassessment 

Students who do not successfully complete the course assessment or who are deemed not ready for assessment during the regular course timeframe will require an additional assessment. Additional costs will apply to any additional assessments. 


Cancellations 

A cancellation fee will not be charged for courses cancelled or rescheduled no less than 5 working days prior to the course start date. For courses cancelled less than 5 days prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 30% of the course cost will be charged. For courses cancelled less than 1 day prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 50% of the course cost will be charged. Full course fees will be charged for “no shows” and participants who start a course but do not complete it.
