CO – Over 100 Tonne Slewing Crane Training Course Outline

Aims and outcomes 

This course aims to ensure successful candidates can safely and competently operate a slewing crane over 100t capacity on site. On completion of the course participants will be able to perform pre-operational checks; set-up and operate the crane competently; shut down and dismantle and perform various operations competently.


Pre-Requisite 

Licence applicants must be 18 years of age and be physically capable of performing the tasks of a slewing crane operator. A basic level of English and a moderate understanding of mathematics will also be required.


Course Content 

The slewing crane Over100t operator course is mapped to the Nationally Recognised unit of competency

TLILIC0016 Licence to Operate a Bridge and Gantry Crane 

  • Legislation, Australian Standards, National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work, codes of practice and company lifting procedures.
  • Company risk management procedures and crane risk control
  • Emergency response procedures incl. Case Studies, alarms, limits
  • Crane type and its capacity
  • Inspection of lifting gear
  • Safe use of all lifting gear - correct reeving, angle factors, determine correct capacity of lifting gear.
  • Calculate area; calculate volume; use other means of establishing load mass.
  • Crane set up requirements, ground bearing capacities, outrigger pad calculations.
  • Pre-operational checks, logbook, load chart and its use; areas of operation as per load chart; structural and stability areas; Australian Standards 2550 & 1418; signals as per Australian Standards
  • Operate crane to manufacturers requirements; lift and move loads as directed by dogman/rigger/banksman, follow signals given by dogman/rigger/banksman, shut down and make crane safe.
  • Shut Down and secure site, all lifting gear to be inspected; crane to be inspected and any problems entered Logbook

Certification 

Successful candidates will be awarded the Nationally Recognised unit of competency, TLILIC0020 Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane Over 100t recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). A Licence to Perform High Risk Work, class CO will also be issued upon application to WorkSafe Tasmania


Delivery Options 

Option 1 - 32 hours full time conducted over 4 days.



Option 2 - Self paced learning program which includes gaining practical experience onsite, reading relevant learning resources, and answering review questions.

Reassessment 

Students who do not successfully complete the course assessment or who are deemed not ready for assessment during the regular course timeframe will require an additional assessment. Additional costs will apply to any additional assessments.


Cancellations 

A cancellation fee will not be charged for courses cancelled or rescheduled no less than 5 working days prior to the course start date.

For courses cancelled less than 5 days prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 30% of the course cost will be charged.

For courses cancelled less than 1 day prior to the start date a cancellation fee of 50% of the course cost will be charged. Full course fees will be charged for “no shows” and participants who start a course but do not complete it.


Refund Policy 

No refunds are available once a course has commenced.

Non-attendance at your chosen course/workshop does not warrant a refund, however substitutes are accepted should you not be able to attend a course for which you have registered.


Under exceptional circumstances Industrial Licencing Solutions may give a refund. If you consider that you have a basis for such a claim, you will be required to apply for a refund in writing and provide relevant documentary evidence to substantiate your claim.


Please note that as Covid restrictions have been lifted, we expect participants to still attend their course while following Covid safe practices in our training space. If you are unable to attend due to sickness a doctor’s certificate will be required.
